AUV AGM 2022 REPORTS

September 9, 2022

AUV AGM 2022 REPORTS

Notice is hereby given of the 75th Annual General Meeting of the Association of Ukrainians in Victoria (AUV) to be held at 3 – 11 Russell St, Essendon at 2:00 pm on Sunday 2nd October 2022.

All reports are available to view or download below.

Copies will be available at the Ukrainian Community Centre, Essendon from Tuesday 13th September 2022. Branch community centres may also have copies available.

Nominations for the Board and Audit Committee are still available. If you wish to nominate yourself or another member for any of the positions, please complete the nomination form below.

This AGM will also be voting to update the Clauses in the Constitution relating to the sale of AUV properties. Please read the attached proposed resolution for details.

CLARIFICATION OF THE PROPOSED RESOLUTION TO BE TABLED AT THE AGM

There appears to be much incomplete and/or incorrect fear information being promoted amongst the Ukrainian Community that the AUV wants to sell its properties and has put a resolution for voting at the AGM on Sunday for that purpose.

Currently, the constitution prevents the AUV from selling, transferring, mortgaging, disposing of, or have major structural or capital modifications to ALL of its assets, including investment properties. The proposal to be tabled at the AGM wishes to clarify this clause by including a Schedule specifying the assets this applies to. The assets specified in the Schedule are all of our domivky (community halls), that are referred to as “Branch real estate”. Therefore, the Board will still NOT be able to sell, transfer, mortgage, dispose of or significantly modify any of our domivky (“Branch or Central real estate”) without following a strict member approval process at an AGM.

The proposed change allows for the AUV Board to manage the investment assets for the best return and effect for the AUV. The Board would NOT have the power to sell any Domivka without an AGM.

Why is this change being proposed?

The AUV is still in significant debt and needs to continue moving forward in its growth and future aspirations for this community. Currently, AUV investments are ALL held up in property and are essentially running at a very poor return rate. In fact, the interest we pay on our loan is greater than the rent from an apartment. Releasing some of this money by way of selling some assets will provide us with the ability to pay off our loan and see to our future. We cannot move forward when in debt. This loan was meant to have been paid back years ago and has been costing us close to $20,000 per annum, with interest rates still rising.

What is the future of the AUV?

It is very positive! We have plans for the improvement and restoration of our Essendon hall, for a continued active membership, for improved communications and outreach to the Australian community, and more. You may hear all reports and future aspirations at our AGM this coming Sunday, 2nd October, from 2pm. We invite you to come and contribute to a positive future for our hromada by supporting positive change and growth.

Affiliate members are welcome to attend the AGM, but are not eligible to vote.
