We are providing our members with an update in relation to the progress of works for stage 1.
Phase 1
Demolition of the existing buildings next door to the domivka (hall) at 13-21 Russell Street is due to commence shortly .
Initially, as the builders secure the construction site, they will need to remove some sections of the current hall at 3-11 Russell Street as these are built onto the land of the site – the ground floor bar, heating ducts, platforms etc for a period of about 3 weeks.
On completion of this initial stage, services such as the heating will be reinstated.
During this phase, there will also be short periods (1 or 2 hours) where the power needs to be disconnected.
As The AUV will lose most of its storage space, large shipping containers have been placed in the car park for about 2 months.
The bus station has been moved to allow access for the construction.
Phase 2
In Early November, piling around the construction site will begin. These are the basic foundations for the new building and will take a few weeks.
Once all the piles are in place, the builders will start digging out the entire site down to 12 meters (3 stories underground).
Completion
Construction is expected to take around 18 months so the expected completion date is March or April 2019.
