“Fighting Ukraine’s Information War”: Olha Herasymiuk in Conversation with Louisa Lim

Russia is waging a multidimensional disinformation campaign in Ukraine that includes persecuting journalists, creating fake webpages and launching preemptive disinformation campaigns ahead of attacks. Ukraine’s media regulator, Olha Herasymiuk, will talk about these threats to journalism and the counter strategies employed.

Olha Herasymiuk is a prominent Ukrainian journalist, cultural figure, and human rights advocate. She currently serves as the Chair of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting and has been actively involved in media regulation, freedom of speech, and the defence of democratic values in Ukraine and internationally.

A former Member of Parliament of Ukraine, Olha Herasymiuk has served on committees dedicated to freedom of expression and European integration and represented Ukraine at the Council of Europe and UNESCO. Her work focuses on media ethics, combating disinformation, gender equality, and preserving cultural heritage.

Associate Professor Louisa Lim (Audio-Visual Journalism, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne) is an award-winning journalist who reported from China for a decade for NPR and the BBC.

Her first book, The People’s Republic of Amnesia: Tiananmen Revisited , was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize for Political Writing and the Helen Bernstein Prize for Excellence in Journalism. She co-hosts The Little Red Podcast, an award-winning podcast on China.
