It is not well known in Australia, mainly because these movies are not regularly screened in this country, that Ukraine has an excellent and thriving lm production business. However, we have had the good fortune to gain access to three excellent Ukrainian Films about life in that country.
Firstly we have Home Games, a charming Film about one Ukrainian family and the difficulties faced by the eldest daughter in a series of problems that affect her own personal life.
The second film, Mr Jones, is mainly in English and exposes the history of the cruelty meted out to the Ukraine people in the 1930s. Its content mirrors very much the situation that the country is now experiencing.
And to the day we have Olga, a study of a brilliant gymnast striving to excel in her sport under the difficult conditions during the 2014 attacks by Russia.
Guest Speaker: Tatiana Zachariak, Chair of the Board for Association of Ukrainians Victoria.
The 30-minute afternoon break will be a special fundraiser with tea/cofee and traditional Ukrainian cake, lovingly baked and donated by our local bakers, available for $5. There will be opportunities to donate during the day and to purchase tickets in our
‘Taste of The Yarra Valley’ rate to be drawn at the end of the day. All fundraising proceeds will go to the Association of Ukrainians Victoria.
