Ukrainian Canadian theatre in Victoria

Привіт! Мене звати Оленка Торошенко і я виросла в Канаді, але зараз я живу в Аделаїді. Мої предки Українці.

Hello. My name is Olenka and I’m a Canadian living in Adelaide, my ancestors are Ukrainian. I have a show at Mildura’s Sun Tide Festival on March 25th called, ‘i am root’.

This is a one-woman (me!) physical theatre and ritual performance piece about being a Ukrainian Canadian and trying to belong in Australia. I sing, dance, clown, storytell, recite my spoken word poetry and chop буряки on stage! I’m doing one show only, at 2pm.

I would like to invite you, the diaspora, to this show as of way of coming together, of me meeting you (I’ve been looking for you, I want to meet you!!) and wonder about what it means to be of Ukrainian descent in Australia at a time like this.
