RECINDLED SYSTEMS – regional tour

I, Olenka Toroshenko, am excited to announce our project ‘Rekindled Systems’ regional tour start in 2 weeks, NOVEMBER 2023, which brings Ukrainian-Canadian artist Olenka Toroshenko together with grass-roots First Nations artists to present a deeply cultural, multidisciplinary event honoring our respective communities, homelands and Ancestors and is the culmination of almost 3 years of production, de-production, developments, covid, floods and now a failed referendum and more…

The line up includes Allara & Olenka, Monica Jasmine Karo, Culture Evolves aka Brent Watkins,
Corey Theatre (Gunditjmara/Warrnambool; Brayakaulung/Traralgon), Bricky B (Yorta
Yorta/Shepparton), Bec Phillips and Mitchell Boney (Dja Dja Wurrung/Bendigo). We are very
grateful to be able to start each event with a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and
dancers from the local mobs.

Myself, a Ukrainian-Canadian artist, alongside my dear friend and college Yorta Yorta artist Allara have created a set of music, movement and storytelling that connects the dots between our stories, together under ‘Allara & Olenka’.

Throughout our set we parallel the struggles of learning and re-learning our languages, we call for justice and sing with hope for real freedom and self-determination of all Ukrainian and First Nations people and sovereignty all over the world by sharing our truth. The revolution continues.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! This final call out for your support of this tour in whatever way you can. We need you to pass on the messages, share far and wide. We need bums in
seats. We need to get the word out. We ask you kindly to please invite your friends, their mums,
your family and friends, basically anyone you know, and last but not least Ukrainian new-comers.

Hosted by MELBOURNE RECITAL CENTRE on Thursday 23rd November at 6pm, Monica Jasmine Karo and Culture Evolves will join for this last very special show. TICKETS ON SALE NOW.

Allara & Olenka will also be jumping in the ALWAYS LIVE SOUNDBOX in the Arts Precinct Forecourt on Saturday 25th November at 5:00pm and will be sharing favourite parts of their show and chatting about the tour!
